Study in Spain

Your next chapter in Spain.

Compare real programmes in Barcelona, Madrid and beyond — and the qualification each one leads to.

Overview

Why consider Spain?

Spain has public and private universities as well as private business, design and hospitality schools. The programmes in our listings are mostly at private universities and schools, above all in Barcelona and Madrid. Qualifications differ: official Spanish degrees, a university's or school's own awards, and degrees awarded by partner universities abroad.

  1. Work alongside your studies, within limits

A long-stay authorisation for higher-education studies allows paid work that's compatible with your studies, generally up to 30 hours a week.

What it means: It can help with living costs, but the visa still requires proof of funds — plan your budget without it.

  2. Different kinds of qualification

Official Spanish degrees sit alongside universities' own awards (títulos propios) and degrees awarded by partner universities, sometimes abroad.

What it means: Check which one a programme leads to, especially if you plan further study or a regulated profession.

  3. A published funds requirement

For a study stay you must show funds equal to 100% of IPREM — Spain's public income reference index — for each month, unless your accommodation is prepaid.

What it means: You can plan your evidence early. Money set aside for tuition doesn't count towards it.

Is this a fit?

Is this a fit for your plans?

Decision points to weigh up — not a judgement about you.

  • Subject and qualification

Our listings in Spain cover business, marketing, hospitality, design and some health and engineering programmes, plus language courses.

  • Teaching language

Many listed programmes are in English; others are in Spanish. Spanish is useful for daily life even on an English-taught course.

  • Budget

Fees vary by school and billing period — some charge per semester, some per year, some add one-time fees. Plan living costs separately.

  • Study experience

Barcelona and Madrid have the most programmes; Valencia, Málaga, Alicante, Murcia and Marbella offer alternatives.

What to check

Immigration and admissions rules change regularly. Use these notes as a starting point and confirm current requirements with official sources.

  • Study stays of more than 90 days need a long-stay study visa from the Spanish embassy or consulate responsible for where you live.
  • You'll need to show funds equal to 100% of IPREM (Spain's public income reference index) for each month, unless your accommodation is paid in advance for the whole stay.
  • Health insurance with an insurer authorised in Spain, giving cover similar to the public health system, is required.
  • Check whether a programme leads to an official Spanish degree — official degrees are listed in the Ministry's RUCT register.
